Joe Schmo
I can't help but be in love with this reality show!! I don't know anyone else who watches it...but I'm seriously thrilled. A reality show that mocks other reality shows...brilliant.
You have to watch the show to get total (& hilarious) effect but here's basically how it works:
The idea: Hapless dupe gets signed up for what he thinks is your regular run-of-the-mill reality show, "The Lap of Luxury"...really it's all a trick and he is the only "real" contestant...all the rest are actors portraying your stereotypical reality show contestants. Furthermore, there is no "Lap of Luxury" and therefore no $100,000 to be won. Instead this dupe/poor guy (Matt Gould) ends up the star of his very own show...a la Truman Show.
The characters:
"Molly" - Beautiful blonde girl, still a virgin & in love with her boyfriend.
"Ashleigh" - The bitch. Matt thinks she's hot, but knows she's no good.
"Hutch" - The asshole. Does anything & everything possible to piss everyone off. Needless to say, Matt develops a real hate-on for Hutch.
"Kip" - The flaming gay guy.
"Earl" - The old guy / ex military guy.
"Dr. Pat" - A psychiatrist who has gone through many failed marriages of her own.
"Brian" - lovable ugly (& fat) guy who's always put in the skimpiest, most horrid costume when it comes time for their immunity challenges (oh yes, there are immunity challenges).
"Ralph Gormer" - the host.
Other items of note:
The immunity robe - awful purple velour thing with feathers--Matt refers to this as the "pimp robe".
Kip's photojournal - self explanatory.
Dr. Pat's dolls - Dr. Pat has these dolls - one's female, the other male...I think she claims to use these in "sessions"...no one's allowed to touch them.
Face plates - everyone has their own plate with their picture & name on it. When someone is voted off they make a final speech to the rest of the group and hand their plate to the host. The host then says, "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust you are now dead to us" & tosses the plate into the fireplace.
Matt is totally the perfect guy for this show, he believes everything & has the best "I'm shocked" expression. He actually seems like a pretty decent guy & everyone (the cast) feels really shitty when one of the incidents actually makes him cry.
Some of the plot twists or things that make Matt's eyes widen in shock (things that make me laugh):
Hutch steals Kip's photojournal & replaces the Kip's pictures with pictures of his ass. Kip has a hissy fit.
Ashleigh develops a crush on the host, but Molly's the one who gets all of the attention...this causes serious tension between the two ladies...many catty remarks.
One morning at breakfast Hutch comes downstairs with Dr. Pat's dolls (yes, the ones no one is allowed to touch) and claims he got some "action" the previous night and proceeds to make the dolls do rude things to each other.
He goes on and on about how he & Dr. Pat got it on until the Dr. herself comes down....she doesn't deny it, but rather tells Hutch to be quiet. Matt is confused.
One of the games - the guys team (Kip not included)loses & must wear costumes while cleaning the mansion. Matt is stuck wearing a school girl uniform - white shirt tied up in the front bearing his rather unattractive belly. Hutch must don a french maid outfit & Brian is put in a pink bunny outfit - basically a pink leotard with a fluffy tail & bunny ears. Matt says, "Brian has got to be the ugliest Playboy bunny".
Hutch gets voted off somehow (I missed this episode) and then makes a comeback--using some legal clause as his excuse...at the next elimination Hutch's plate is back on display--all broken & glued back together.
Molly gets voted off & instead of throwing her plate in the fireplace, the host hands it to her & says she can keep it...he then gives her a kiss on the mouth.
The show is hilarious, I can't really explain anymore....post is long enough as it is. I have to admit I have developed a bit of a crush on the poor guy...he's such a goof & the perfect dupe for the show but is cute in his own way.
